We have just completed our second stay at the Sunway Putra hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The first time there were 3 of us here and we were in a crest room overlooking the pool and views to the Petronas twin towers, the second stay we were in a deluxe room. Both room types were very comfortable but the crest rooms would be fabulous for larger families as a second room (superior can be interconnecting) meaning you have 2 bedrooms and a lounge area plus 3, yes 3 bathrooms. The Sunway also offers apartment type rooms although I have never stayed in these.

The hotel facilities are all very comfortable and being attached to the Sunway Mall is very convenient, there are a number of take away options and supermarkets as well as pharmacy’s, ATMs and department stores. (please note at present the mall is closed for renovations so please check before making a reservation if this is important to you.)

The PWTC LRT station is across the road and the Chow Kit Monorail station is out the hotel doors and just to the right making accessing any of KL’s attractions very easy. Easily access the KLCC Twin towers area, the butterfly and bird parks, China town and many more via these cheap and efficient public transport system. The concierge will be happy to provide you with maps for the Monorail and LRT systems. They are both user friendly but be forewarned the stations for the monorail are several stories off the ground and involve a lot of steps, so not exactly stroller friendly.

The hotel pool is lovely and the pool area has a view of the twin towers, there is a friendly life guard on duty, in fact all of the staff we encountered were really really lovely, friendly and extremely helpful.

The breakfast buffet is great, the variety is excellent with a really good range of both Western and Asian choices. The hotel also offers a buffet lunch and dinner which we found to be excellent value. The restaurant staff were really very kind to accommodate requests from my  over tired grumpy child who insisted at one sitting on ordering pancakes even though they weren’t on the menu, not to worry an impromptu staff meeting was held, the chef was consulted and before we knew it pancakes appeared. They just couldn’t do enough for master 4, they all took his photo and would come rushing to greet him whenever he was in the hotel common areas.

Although the Sunway Putra is located a little way out from the attractions we found that the lower price for the quality we received was WELL worth the sacrifice and with KL’s amazing transport system, nothing is ever far away. If you can afford it and would like a little luxury treat yourself to the crest rooms but if you are on a budget the standard rooms are nice and spacious and perfectly adequate as well.

Overall a good choice for a base for your KL trip. Having tried other hotels in KL and been sorely disappointed (but that’s another story) I would opt to return to the Sunway for a third stay if the price was right and the need arose for us to be back in the area.
