When we heard Shanghai Disneyland was opening its magical gates we knew we had to visit so the search for ideal accommodation began. I came across the option of Somerset Xu Hui and it looked ideal. Perfect for Family Travel to Shanghai.
We arrived at the property last week after a confusing taxi ride from PVG airport do not leave home without the hotel’s address written in Chinese (we had this and still had some confusion). Taxi from the airport was under 200 Yuan.
Stressed and tired we checked in. The check in staff could not have been nicer. He was so helpful and filled us in on the local area. When we later wanted to explore he wrote out some helpful instructions in Chinese for us, gave tips on the subway system and was just fabulously helpful.
We rode the elevator up to our 20th floor apartment and we so so so impressed when the door opened. We were met with a super spacious apartment.
Our apartment featured 3 bedrooms; 2 with doubles and one room with 2 single beds, a dining area, a lounge/sitting area with tv and dvd player, 2 bathrooms, 3 balconies and a kitchen (with a washing machine.) One of the bathrooms has a huge deep bathtub perfect for little ones.
If you are travelling as a family or even a group Somerset Xu Hui needs to be on your list. It is honestly ideal. The space was perfect and gave the wandering child and I room to spread out. He loved having a DVD player and a couch to lounge on.
The hotel is located well with a Starbucks and a Costas Coffee each located virtually next door, mum or dad can get their caffeine fix and there were plenty of snack options suitable for kids like muffins, fruit salads etc. There is a convenience store just across the road where we stocked up on snacks and drinking water etc (although the Somerset were kind enough to leave us plenty of drinking water for our initial stay.)
Getting around Shanghai from the hotel is easy with Jiashan Road metro station within a minutes walk. (future articles on the Shanghai Metro coming up.) Shanghai Disneyland is easily accessible via the metro and its definitely easier than taking taxis (unless you are fluent in Mandarin of course.)
Downstairs there is a kids play area with slides and a ball pit located nearby the indoor pool with a small kids pool attached. The hotel also has a tennis court.

Thanks to Somerset Xu Hui for hosting our stay, we cant wait to come back. As always all opinions are my own.
