For a free evening out in KL bring the kids to the light and music show at KLCC at the base of the Petronas twin towers. The nightly show starts anytime from 7pm onwards, we had heard 7.16 (yes 16) was the start time but in reality it was quite a lot later than this and began only once it got quite dark.
We grabbed a dinner of Sushi, salads and pastries in Isetan supermarket on the lower level of the Suria KLCC shopping centre. It’s a cheap meal and provides something for the little ones to do while waiting for the lights to come on. The food is very cheap with my sons sushi choice costing only 4 MYR for 6 small rolls, pick and mix salads around the same and yummy bakery goods coming in at 10MYR. We always eat from here when we come to the KLCC Playground.
After purchasing dinner we went to find a seat. We arrived at 7pm and were able to find a seat on the steps next to the fountains easily enough. A great vantage point is the small bridge over the lake but it was busy up there by 7pm but the viewing point from the steps all around the lake is fine( only difference being, from the bridge the backdrop is the Petronas twin towers.)
Once its dark the colour lit fountains dance, spin and weave to the background music and its a really pretty sight.
OK, so the show isn’t going to compare to fireworks at Disneyland or anything that exciting but it makes for a lovely place to have a picnic dinner with free entertainment and a great way to end an evening play at the KLCC Playground. My son really loved seeing the light show and the stunning Petronas towers at night.
Getting to KLCC is really simple, its easily accessible by train, taxi or even by foot. We walked there and back from Bukit Bintang area (there is a covered, lit walkway from Pavilions shopping centre to KLCC area.) This is a lovely free evening out.
