When we arrive in a new city we like to try get our bearings and find that a hop on hop off bus tour is the perfect way to do this.
On arriving in Hong Kong we decided to jump on the Big Bus and do a lap to figure out where we wanted to spend more time and what to see.
The Big Bus Deluxe Tour ticket includes trips on Hong Kong’s famous Star Ferry, A ticket for the peak tram, a Sampan ride and unlimited rides on the buses for 48 hours.
We first hopped on the Red Line and toured the island of Hong Kong, it was a unique perspective to see all those skyscrapers from the open top of a double decker bus. My son loved it and insisted we sit upstairs on each bus (even when it was raining).
Big Bus provides free headphones for their commentary which runs in several languages. The commentary was interesting and my son actually learned a number of facts from the commentary which he spouted over the rest of our trip….’Mum did you know that in Cantonese the word ‘four’ sounds the same as the word for ‘death’ so many hotels and buildings don’t have a fourth floor’ (he checked out this fact in the hotels we visited too!)
We used the Big Buses for our main transport around HK. We found a stop near our hotels and explored Hong Kong from there.
We stayed on the bus for a whole loop to see what we may like to visit most then jumped back on for another loop to hop on and off at our chosen destinations.
We found the Big Bus Deluxe Tour to be good value given all of its inclusions and we will definitely use Big Bus again on our future trips.
The staff in the Big Bus customer service centre were so helpful and made loads of great suggestions about our itinerary and what my son might enjoy best and which stops were nearest our hotel.
If you’re looking to explore Hong Kong, Big Bus is a perfect way to start.
